The island of Maui is small when one considers that the entire length of the island may be traveled over the course of one day. In truth you can go to any one of Hawaiis six islands and experience the legendary paradise that is so widely written about and reveled. Maui Has It All
Maui has everything encompasses everything that is Hawaiian. Known to have the best weather of the islands because of its great location, Maui temperatures are typically mild. Eighty-five degrees is typical during the summer months and around 78 degrees is typical of the winter months. After all, Hawaii really only has two recognizable seasons. If you are interested in navigating Mauis highest peaks then you should be aware of temperature changes. Estimate that the temperature will drop a little over three degrees for each elevation of 1,000 feet. Dont forget your sunburn because the suns rays are even more penetrable at these heights despite the cooler temperature.
Maui offers much in the way of family activities. The whaling museum and the historic sugar plantation train ride are a couple of the educational family activities available. Many visitors to Maui are not aware that Maui houses a stimulating visual arts center as well. The Hui NoEau Visual Arts Center has year round artist exhibits. Tourists are welcome to participate in the centers tour. The centers programs typically last for four to six weeks and may not be as accessible for those just visiting the island.
Maui is known for its water sports. However, everyone is not sea friendly. The idea of swimming and paddling close to sea animals is sometimes not enticing to small children or the squeamish. It is for this reason that Maui also houses the Maui Ocean Center. An acrylic tunnel encases visitors as they travel through a massive ocean replica. The tank is filled with fish, sharks, turtles, manta rays, and even whales during their mating and birthing season.

Hawaii Travel: South Maui

The Hawaiian Island of Maui is divided into two sections, based on its geographical features. South Maui is the name of the larger, southeastern part of the island, whereas West Maui is the name of the small, northwestern part of the island. A large valley divides the two parts of the island and cuts from the town of Kihei on Maalaea Bay northeast to the town of Kahului on Kahului Bay.
Much to Do on South Maui
South Maui is home to Haleakala State Park and the dormant volcano known as Haleakala Crater. There are sub-alpine regions and rainforests on South Maui, as well as a large number of beaches. The majority of these beaches are on the western coast of South Maui, along a strip of beaches called the Kihei Coast. The white-sand beaches that make up the Kihei Coast stretch from the end of Maalaea Beach in the north to Kewakapu Beach Park in the south.
Theres a lot that will appeal to vacationers on South Maui. Aside from hiking in the national parks and lounging on the beautiful beaches, there are a number of other activities a person could enjoy. Snorkeling, scuba diving and windsurfing are popular activities along the Kihei Coast. Its possible to go whale watching in Maalaea Bay during the winter when humpback whales from Alaska come south in search of warmer waters.
There are dozens of restaurants to be enjoyed on South Maui, and the nightlife is quite good. With the markets, shops bazaars and other stores along the Kihei Coast on South Maui, there are a lot of souvenirs of your trip that can be found. Finding a place to stay is easy as well, with the dozens of available hotels, B&Bs and rental units that can be found on South Maui.
